Introduction
Kia ora, my name is Caro. I am from Switzerland and have lived on this side of the world for 20 years and have 18 years experience in counselling and mental health. I have worked with adults, adolescents and children, however I am now focusing on supporting Tamariki from 3 to 12 years old uniquely, using child centered play therapy (CCPT).
Qualifications
Bachelor in Education (Psychoeducation) from University of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada
Post grad certificate in play therapy from Charles Darwin University, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia
Trained in CBT, DBT, ACT, MI, trauma informed FDR, Child Inclusive medication and counselling (child consult), suicide risk assessment and brief interventions, psychodrama workshops.
Member of New Zealand Association of Counsellors (MNZAC).
Experience
Individual counselling and group work, collaborative work with schools, Victim Support, Police in Manurewa, Auckland.
Individual adult counselling, group work for court mandated, child inclusive practice for family dispute resolution in a post separation, mediation and counselling services in Darwin, Australia.
Individual counselling for adults and children following my return to Aotearoa New Zealand, at the Leslie Centre (counsellor and play therapist).
I then was part of an inspiring pilot project to set up a therapeutic service (play therapy room on school ground) at Fruitvale Primary school, Auckland, and worked alongside amazing teachers and principal, to support Tamariki getting into mainstream classroom.
I moved to Southland in 2019 and worked at ADL with adolescents (mild-moderate mental health, 12-24 years old, AoD) for the last five and a half years.
I have now set up my private practice - Play Therapy Southland, to support younger Tamariki from 3 to 11-12 years old. I am based at the Community House, 46 Kelvin Street, Invercargill.
